Saffy le Fauve (the Beast)

Completed Date: 8/7/13
Medium: acrylic
Description: I’ve always wanted to paint a portrait of my sweet little dog, and this assignment with fauvism was the perfect chance! It was also a total experiment, but the crazy colors and patterns definitely represent my crazy dog. 🙂 I don’t think it matches Henri Matisse’s fauvism exactly, but both Saffy and I gave it our own touch.
Very cool – love the vibrant colors and design.
Thanks! I was surprised at how much I liked working with the style.
Wonderful art. Thanks for following my blog.
Thank you so much! I’m glad I saw it; your work is so thought-provoking and full of depth.
The painting is amazing! you did amazing
Thanks!
how did you make it?
What I did was sketch out the patches of various values in Saffy’s face. Then, I separated my acrylic paint colors into light, medium, and dark values and spread out the color choices while I was painting. At the end, I went back to add some outlines and final touches. Thanks for asking!
