Description: This drawing is a portrait of one of my favorite French teachers, and the whole project is part of a tradition in our art department. The idea is that every AP Art student chooses a teacher to draw a portrait of that highlights either the subject which that teacher teaches or an aspect of that teacher’s personality. Then, the portraits are auctioned off to raise money for our art club’s annual field trip to visit art galleries in Atlanta. Since I love French and my sweet, outgoing teacher who sponsors the French Club so much, I decided to draw a portrait of her and to show her soft, loving, and cultured character by adding in the lavender flowers. Don’t you think of sunny fields of lavender billowing in the gentle wind and the elegant fragrance of the flowers that tickles your nose when you think of the French countryside? OK, maybe that’s going a bit too far, but France definitely brings along that romantic, whimsy feeling for all of us French-lovers.
