Description: This surrealism piece was part of my AP Art summer work this past summer, and I got some of my inspiration from the famous Salvador Dali whom I recently read a really interesting book about. My style, of course, and subject matter are not based off of Dali’s work at all. I decided to steer my surreal painting in a more positive, cheerful path. Hopefully, down the road, I’ll feel more comfortable with embracing my “darker” side. 🙂 It definitely is a little scary to present something so personal like that to the entire world, like Dali and other artists did. Maybe I’ll work up to that… Anyway, here, I created a sort of fantasy land/ amusement park of childhood with an older, symbolic hand reaching back to grab that lightheartedness and cheerfulness. Sometimes, we, as older humans, forget this playful setting and atmosphere that the world holds. It’s impossible to fully realize how valuable our childhoods are until they fade away.
