Portrait in Pastels

Completed Date: 9/20/12

Medium: soft pastels

Description: As an AP Art sketchbook project, we were supposed to use soft pastels to realistically describe part of a person’s face. The goal of the assignment was to prepare us for one of our biggest, most well known pieces: the teacher portrait piece in which we each pick a teacher, photograph him/her, and create a portrait in pastels. (That’s what we’re working on now.) Anyway, here, I drew one of my friends from a picture of when she was at her quinceanera. Some things I’ll probably work on for my next pastel piece are blending a little more smoothly, working on the eye values, and lightening the values in the cheekbone (for this drawing).

This is excellent, you did an amazing job on her features and her skin tone is perfection. Keep up the great work! 🙂
