Medium: graphite

Description: Focusing on values and shading techniques to create depth, I rendered the circular pattern of this flower with twisted ribbons coming out of its center. I look back on this piece and remember how my art teacher pushed and pushed for us to use our deep shadows and light highlights and every shade in between. I remember that it was hard for me, and even though I thought I was creating a wide value range, I see now that I could’ve done a little better. Not my favorite piece, but it has helped me along the way. I also do kind of like how I placed something natural (a flower) within something geometric to make it surreal…

    I also had a problem with my values and whatnot. Exaggerating everything definitely helps me!
