A City of Dance

June 28, 2012 by mamie

Completed Date: 2010

Medium: acrylic paint

Description: This is a piece that I made for the Istanbul Center’s art contest a few years ago. The theme for the contest was Who is my neighbor?, so I picked a subject important to me and showed dancers of different backgrounds coming together through dance in the city of New York. Art forms, like dancing, writing, painting, and theatre always help us meet new people and get to know the cultures and neighbors of the world that we live in. The reason the background is black and white is to highlight the fact that when different people come together in various ways, beautiful events, such as peace and understanding, occur. This beauty is shown in the colorful beauty. My piece won 6th place in the contest, and I was so happy to be a part of the Istanbul Center’s successful project.
